For the construction of the new Olympic ski jump in St. Moritz an architectural competition was won. The key idea of the project is the use of wooden larch shingles, an old construction technique in the canton of grisons. The head of the ski jumping is shaped as a pinecone which flows into the jump. This is aesthetically convincing and creates a strong connection between the ski jump and its surrounding larch forest. The supporting steel beams provide the structure with a lightweight, almost floating character.
